Scientists at the jet propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena (USA) has discovered the brightest galaxy known at the moment. W2246-0526 receives energy due to the absorption of substances from three of the dwarf satellite galaxies.
It is estimated that in the centre it is a black hole with a mass four billion Suns, however, the extreme luminosity indicates that this mass must be much greater.
W2246-0526 removed from the Earth at 12.4 billion light-years, and its luminosity 350 trillion times the luminosity of the Sun. The results of observation using a set of radio telescopes ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter Array), located in the Atacama desert (Chile), revealed that the bright light is a cloud of hot gas and dust, located in the vicinity of a supermassive black hole. The matter falling into black hole heats to millions of degrees and emits light.
It is shown that W2246-0526 “fed” a substance from the three galaxies-neighbors, and this process can be observed several hundred million years. This galaxy falls into a special category of cosmic objects called hot, dusty galaxies (eng. Hot DOG), but it differs from other representatives of their great brightness. according to scientists, it represents a key stage in the evolution of very energetic galaxies called quasars.
