Mother of hostages in Beslan: “the protocols wrote that we are beating on the car, and so we have the bruises”

As the authorities are trying to force the victims of the Beslan terrorist attack to silence

September 2017 — the thirteenth anniversary of the terrorist attack in Beslan. Last year the mother of the dead children were staged in the gym, where, in 2004, terrorists were holding hostages — women wearing t-shirts with the inscription “Putin — the executioner of Russia”, after that they were detained and fined. Ella Kesaeva, the mother of one of the hostages during the terrorist attack in Beslan school, told Open Russia, in the last year, they feel the attention of law enforcement: after the protest they had received threats from the police, and today, when relatives of the victims came to the scene of the tragedy, former school building was surrounded by law enforcement officers in civilian clothes.

“We stood at the photographs of their dead, we are surrounded by a dense ring”

“This morning, we came to the memorial service in the gymnasium, the school was completely cordoned off, says Ella Kesayeva. — There was a huge number of people in uniform and officers, dressed in civilian clothes. We stood around photos of their dead, we were immediately surrounded by such a dense ring. It was felt that they were watching our every move, and in such a tense situation we stood for a moment and went out. And even strangers came to us and said, “Is that you were watching? What a mess, what have we come“. There’s no need to explain anything — locals can understand. I employees is calculated on the shoes. Even though they were civilians, but they were the elite, very expensive shoes. Local didn’t dress they can’t wear that. Only those who work in the organs, it is possible to buy such shoes. And the facial expression it was clear: a glass eye, a terrible cruel indifferent look”.

The woman said that in recent years the site of the attack comes less people. This is due to the fact that the former gym has little resemblance to the scene in 2014 it was covered by a metal sarcophagus Golden brown: “There began to make the memorial, but the sarcophagus is still not finished. Thereby they changed the look of the gym and made it beautiful. And the beauty they hid what they did by the security forces. They were removed parallel to the building, where security forces were shooting and where they were killed hostages.”

According to Ella Kesaeva, the sarcophagus is not just a decoration, but an attempt to conceal the crime, which made the Russian authorities while trying to storm the building. Thus, the authorities are trying to deprive people of the opportunity to learn the truth about the terrorist attack in Beslan, said Kesaeva: “Removed a lot of what it was. The guide told us that all will remain and the building is not touched, but we were deceived. In fact, they complied with the instructions of the top management, I’m sure that there were instructions from Moscow, these traces of fire be eliminated. It helps them to concoct the legend. The power all these years not talking about your shame and the crime of the security forces, and trying to present them as heroes. And their version of the attack with a strong propaganda attack is on the brain of children of school age — many of them want to work in the government, to be heroes. We do not have such opportunities to tell the truth about what happened. And when we see how teachers with children in schools to sing songs praising the special forces, we understand that one it is difficult to fight”.

“We were intimidated, we are writing to notify”

In April 2017, the European court of human rights ordered Russia to pay $ 2.9 billion to victims of the attack. As previously said lawyer Kirill Koroteev, representing the interests of applicants to the ECHR, the court found a violation of article 2 of the European Convention on human rights: “violation of the right to life”: “the court decision said about the four violations of article 2 of the European Convention. The first is, that Russian authorities had information about the attack and did not prevent. The second violation is that when the attack happened, was a terrible mess for a long time about the exact number of hostages was not talking only to us, but even the emergency workers who were supposed to act on the basis of this number. Third violation — was used in the assault indiscriminate weapons. And fourth, the inefficient investigation of the case of hostage — taking”.

“Strasbourg has fully recognized, what was the use of weapons that caused mass death of the hostages, — said Ella Kesaeva. — But the Russian government this resolution is not recognized, they appealed it. However, we are confident that in the next few months the decision will enter into force. When people read the decision of the ECHR, many of us asked: “How is it? Do what you have been saying all these years is true?“ For many it was a shock. Although it was just a shock for the younger generation who have not seen it with my own eyes, which were not in Beslan in those days. And those who were here in September 2004, they saw it all with my own eyes, they know what it is. Today we stood in the gym, we were approached by people who said that thought of our t-shirts with the inscription “Putin — the executioner of Beslan”, which we put in last year and said “It’s true, it’s true”

After the rally, which was held last year mother’s of victims during a memorial service, a court sentenced the women to pay fines of 20 thousand rubles and compulsory works. However, according to Kesaeva, the police did not stop: “After the action we wanted to complain to the police because we were subjected to physical violence, we had bruises on her arms. They wrote the protocols that we ourselves fought on the machine, and therefore we have the bruises. One woman brought a criminal case, alleged that she was bitten by a police officers. The investigator told us that if we will continue to hold their shares and to write statements, they also continue to have criminal proceedings“. We were intimidated, we were notified in writing. Then we temporarily decided not to file complaint against officers — and the criminal case was closed. Two days after the ECtHR had decided to attack, we have prepared complaints against employees and the decision of the court for the shares, and sent it to the ECHR. Five women, five petitioners”.

1 September 2004 terrorists seized the school No. 1 in Beslan and for two days held hostage by 1128 people. September 3, security forces stormed the building — in the result of the operation killed 334 people, among them 186 children. The investigation did not establish the perpetrators of the attack.
