Now the Intel processors are only laptops and PC.
Apple Inc. plans to use its own chips in Macs, starting in 2020, replacing the Intel Corp.
The initiative, codenamed Kalamata, is still at an early stage, but is included in a larger strategy to all Apple devices, including Mac, iPhones and iPads, worked equally.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s rejection of Intel chips will be a blow for the latter. According to the Agency, it brings about 5% of annual income. Apple uses Intel chips in their computers since 2005.
At the same time, this decision will allow faster Apple to bring new features to all their products and stand out from competitors. The use of the fixed chips would make Apple the only major computer manufacturer that uses their own processors. Dell Technologies Inc., HP Inc., Lenovo Group Ltd. and Asustek Computer Inc. use Intel chips.
In fact, on Intel processors only work laptops and PC. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV already have their own chips.
“We think that Apple is exploring ways to further integrate their hardware and software platforms, and they clearly made some steps in this space, trying to integrate iOS and macOS. It makes sense to assume that they will go further in this direction,” said Shannon Cross, analyst at Cross Research.
Apple declined to comment, Bloomberg reported. Intel also said that the company does not comment on rumors about its customers. However, Intel shares fell 6.4% to $48,75. The total drop of the shares was 9.2%, which is the largest decline over the last 2 years.
