Cappadocia is famous for its many ancient underground cities. Derinkuyu is the deepest of them. They say the city can live up to twenty thousand people.

In 2000, the tunnels were open to the public, but in 2008 they were again closed for restoration. When they’re open again, nobody knows. The tunnels were about a hundred entrances and could accommodate nearly half the population of the city.
They also say that the tunnels were even built schools and other institutions so that citizens could hide out there for a long time.
