In Germany early Monday morning, December 10, began a warning strike of railway workers organized by the trade Union of railway workers and transport EVG. Deutsche Bahn has suspended nationwide movement of long distance trains. According to the company, these trains terminated at least until the end of the strike, which officially should be completed at 9 a.m. (11:00 GMT).
The consequences of the strike, however, will be felt all day. Deutsche Bahn warned passengers about a strong disruption in the train schedule and recommended them to postpone the trip to Tuesday. The tickets will retain their validity, passengers with transfers, over 10 and 11 December will be allowed to transfer to any convenient trains at no additional cost.
From many regions of Germany it is also reported about the large-scale disruptions in regional rail transport. For example, from Nuremberg canceled all commuter trains in the direction of würzburg, Munich and Berlin. The most severely suffering strikes the South-Western part of Germany. The main station of Karlsruhe is completely stopped. In Berlin in the early morning do not go commuter trains. Throughout Germany there are also disruptions in the movement of freight rail transport.
The EVG trade Union has announced a warning strike after the failure of the tariff negotiations with Deutsche Bahn. EVG is not satisfied that he has failed to achieve a desired pay raise to 160 thousand of its members. Deutsche Bahn, for its part, criticized the strike as totally unnecessary, because, according to the company, tariff negotiations were successful.
